AgeAlive Research Forum 2025: Exploring Diverse Living Environments for Healthy Aging
On Thursday, April 3, AgeAlive hosted its annual Research Forum, bringing together community leaders, researchers, and advocates to explore the theme “Diverse Living Environments for Aging Well: Exploring Options and Solutions.” The forum highlighted innovative, interdisciplinary work aimed at improving healthy aging, with a special emphasis on housing-related initiatives.
The event was held in person at the MSU Federal Credit Union Farm Lane Branch in East Lansing along with a remote viewing site at the Ishpeming Multi-Purpose Senior Center in the Upper Peninsula. Virtual participation was also provided via Zoom. Attendees engaged in the event, highlighting the statewide interest in housing environments crucial to healthy aging.
The forum featured presentations from researchers and community stakeholders focused on emerging housing trends and current studies, as well as housing alternatives that are growing in popularity. Resource tables were onsite in East Lansing, and featured agencies supporting older adults through shared information, tools, and services. A standout session included a housing panel with representatives from the City of Lansing, the City of East Lansing, AARP, the Shared Use Housing Advocacy Network, and local developers. The panelists offered a deep dive into age-friendly housing models, challenges, and future opportunities for advocacy.
