Education
Championing Lifelong Learning & Intergenerational Understanding
Why Lifelong Learning Matters
Education is key to building an age-inclusive society where all generations are prepared to contribute and thrive across the lifespan. At Michigan State University, AgeAlive fosters a culture that values lifelong learning and intergenerational understanding. We help students, faculty, alumni, and communities thrive in a world shaped by generational change.
Our Strategic Focus
AgeAlive strengthens MSU’s educational ecosystem by focusing on three strategies:
- Shift Campus Culture
We encourage MSU faculty and departments to integrate aging-related topics into diverse disciplines, helping prepare students for personal and professional success in an aging society. - Champion Lifelong Learning
We support learning beyond the classroom through programs and platforms that promote engagement and growth at every stage of life. - Foster Intergenerational Education
We create environments that encourage understanding and exchange across generations, making classrooms and communities more inclusive and resilient.
Learning Across Generations
At the heart of AgeAlive’s work is the belief that learning is a shared, intergenerational experience. We bring generations together to learn, challenge outdated narratives, and foster meaningful connection.

Spotlight: Town & Gown Series
The Town & Gown Series, developed in partnership with East Lansing’s Prime Time Seniors Program and the Social Science Scholars Program, brings MSU faculty and community members together for conversations on topics ranging from public policy to personal well-being. These events strengthen academic-community connections and reflect AgeAlive’s commitment in translating university expertise into meaningful public dialogue.
