About

MSU’s Hub for Healthy Aging, Lifelong Well-Being, and Intergenerational Connection

Why AgeAlive Matters

As people live longer, the importance of rethinking how we learn, work, and thrive across the lifespan has never been greater. At Michigan State University, AgeAlive helps lead that shift by serving as a collaborative hub that connects people, research, and ideas to advance healthy aging, intergenerational connection, and lifelong well-being.

Grounded in MSU’s land-grant mission and aligned with the university’s Age-Friendly University designation, AgeAlive fosters cross-disciplinary collaboration and community partnerships that respond to the real challenges—and possibilities—of an aging society.

Our Mission and Purpose

AgeAlive exists to position MSU as a leader in aging by serving as the university’s hub for advancing research, education, and community engagement. Rather than working in isolation, we bring people and programs together across disciplines, generations, and institutions to support age-inclusive communities at MSU and beyond. This work is collaborative by design, and we invite students, faculty, community partners, and supporters to help shape what’s next.

Housed in the College of Osteopathic Medicine, AgeAlive reflects MSU’s broader commitment to inclusive excellence, population health, and innovation for the public good. We are expanding visibility and building the sustainable partnerships needed to ensure long-term impact across the university and in communities.

Our Strategic Focus Areas

We focus on three core areas of impact:

  • Research
Convening and amplifying aging-related research through cross-campus collaboration, shared resources, and recognition programs such as the Annual Research Forum and Annual Awards Ceremony.
  • Education
Encouraging the integration of aging content across disciplines and championing lifelong learning through initiatives like the Town & Gown series and community learning platforms.
  • Outreach & Engagement
Advancing age-friendly practices through meaningful partnerships with Michigan communities and intergenerational initiatives such as Generations Connect and the Butterfly Gardens project.

Our Vision

We envision a world where aging is not a barrier, but a shared journey of purpose, participation, and connection for people of all ages and abilities. AgeAlive promotes a culture in which every generation is empowered to contribute to collective well-being, and where aging is understood not just as change, but as growth.

Discover how we bring this vision to life through our core pillars: research, education, and outreach.
